The Inter Organisational Group on Archive at Risk was created in February 2006, following the session on endangered archives held at the World Electronic Media Forum – WEMF II, on the occasion of the World Summit of the Information Society (Tunis, 15-16 November 2005). The original members were the United Nations Archive; UNESCO; the World broadcasting Union; the European Broadcasting Union;
FIAT / IFTA – International Federation of Television Archive and Matt White (independent archive specialist)
The Group launched a world survey, organised by the World Broadcasting Union and their regional members, intended to estimate the magnitude of the issue initially for broadcast archives.
The project , led by the chairmanship of the Group, by Emmanuel Hoog, CEO of INA and former President of FIAT / IFTA , is now managed under the auspices of the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archive Associations (CCAAA)http://www.ccaaa.org/
The original interorganisational group recognised that it needed to expand membership in order to be fully representative and inclusive. This was achieved when the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archive Associations (CCAAA) took the lead on strategy development. The project was re-launched in September 2012 the UNESCO Memory of the World conference in Vancover.
